Projects on Optimization of parking spaces

Cummins, Pune

IMG-20140204-WA0002

The site is a 3 level parking lot for 2500 cars. This is a LEED certified green building. They anticipated that the time taken by an employee from entering the campus, parking and reaching their seat would be long as they would spend enormous time finding a vacant parking

We implemented:

  • Bay Finder Wireless Intelligent Parking Guidance System,
  • 11 sensors, 6 main entrance displays and 4 floor level displays.
  • A server interfaced with a wireless unit was installed to capture the vehicle counts sensed by the sensors and vacant counts displayed in the display units
  • Updates to the display units could be done from the server by sending signals through the wireless unit

Result:

Adequate information as regards vacant space availability is provided across all entry points – Employee reaction has been overwhelming. The colorful displays gets a “Wow” from guests.

Brookefields, Coimbatore

Bay Finder Wireless Parking Guidance System

Brookefields is the first mall of its kind in Coimbatore. The mall has been receiving substantial footfalls. Parking space for 700 cars & 1500 two-wheelers are present and the average daily arrival is around 2000 to 2500 cars & 4000 to 5000 two-wheelers. Increasing crowds has posed challenges in management of the parking lot.

Key challenges:

  • Reducing congestion and ensuring smooth flow of traffic.
  • Ensuring better process controls – Maximization of revenue collection & minimization of leakage
  • Guiding guests to the floor with vacant slots & orderly parking.

The following systems were implemented

  1. Vehicle Counter Sensors – roof mounted at the entry points
  2. Intelligent Park & Pay System (IPAPS v1.3) – PC based ticketing system replaced the Hand held ticketing machines, which were not conducive for handling the volume of vehicles, leading to significant billing leakage. The system is now being upgraded to include NFC (Near Field Communication) readers and cards.
  3. Bay Finder Intelligent Parking Guidance System – Sensors roof mounted at strategic points across the floor. Data captured by these sensors are also recorded in the IPAPS system.
  4. Real time 7 segment LED displays – shows count of vacant slots available at any instant.

Result:

  1. Real time monitoring of current occupancy and revenue collection by parking management & senior management enabled.
  2. Comparison of revenue collections with actual vehicle movements as detected by sensors – Reduced billing leakage.
  3. Provision of various types of logs to track entries – Better process control.
  4. Detailed & Summary reports, including terminal-wise, user-wise & Forecast of arrival patterns based on past trends.
  5. Stronger controls in management of critical data, including rate masters, user masters, vehicle counts and collection.
  6. Flexibility to add / reduce multiple entry & exit points depending upon traffic volume.
  7. Space availability displays helps drivers reach vacant spaces quickly – Reduced congestion and organized parking.
  8. Integration of Bay Finder IPGS & IPAPS provides rich data, such as for measuring the footfalls for specific anchor tenants.

Abirami Mega Mall, Chennai

20130529_183900

Abirami Mega Mall is among the earliest malls in Chennai, famous for its many “firsts” in the city. The mall had observed a sudden reduction in footfall of A+, A and B category customer due to opening of several other malls. Poor parking management was identified as one of the reasons for reduction in patronage and we were invited to provide an appropriate solution.

We implemented Slot Finder Intelligent Parking Guidance System and also included certain site specific features such as,

  • Floor layout change schedules for cars & two wheelers depending upon movie timings and crowd
  • Accelerated system for clearance from terrace parking at the end of movie shows
  • Automated buzzer alerts in a single lane ramp for vehicle safety and so on.
  • We used our 5 Phase implementation methodology for the  first time.

Result:

The crowd exit time at the end of every movie show reduced from average of 25 minutes to around 10 minutes, resulting in better space management.

The systems have added glamour and safety to the parking lot and a steady increase in footfall is being observed.

Ashok Leyland, Chennai and V A Tech Wabag, Chennai

Wabag House

The sites are 3 level basement parking lots of their corporate offices and are LEED certified green buildings.

Certain serious safety concerns were observed in the parking lot and we were invited to check whether our technology solutions would help solve the challenges.

We undertook a detailed study and observed that our electronic solutions are not required and a change of layout along with installing appropriate sign boards, line marking and speed bumps would help meet the challenges.

The changes were instituted helped in improving safety, reducing time for employees to reach their seats during morning hours and contributed towards improving employee satisfaction.

Projects focused on increasing revenue and reducing leakage & wastage

Spencer Plaza, Chennai

Spencer

Spencer Plaza, Chennai is the first mall in India and is a pioneer in establishment of organized retail in India. The parking lot at this mall is among the best maintained and best managed in Chennai. Despite it being well organized, it was felt that

  1. The existing software used for ticketing is not scalable and hence required to be changed.
  2. Additional controls in the management of parking lot are required in order to maximize revenue collections and minimize leakage.

Our following systems were implemented:

  1. Vehicle Counter Sensors Roof-mounted above the entry and exit points.
  2. Intelligent Park & Pay System (IPAPS v1.3) Replaced older PC based ticketing system and hand held ticketing machines,
  3. Barrier Gates with gate controllersinterfaced with IPAPS

Result:

  1. Real time monitoring of current occupancy and revenue collection – access by parking management & senior management enabled.
  2. Comparison of revenue collections with the actual vehicle movements as detected by the sensors – Helps reduce billing leakage.
  3. Provision of various types of logs to track entries – Helps in better process control.
  4. Detailed & Summary reports, including terminal-wise & user-wise and Forecast of arrival patterns based on past trends.
  5. Stronger controls in management of critical data, including rate masters, user masters, vehicle counts and collection.
  6. Flexibility to add / reduce multiple entry & exit points depending upon traffic volume.
  7. Increase in footfall has been observed

 G.D Naidu Charities, Coimbatore

G D Naidu Charities, Coimbatore has been operating a public parking lot for over 300 cars and 200 two-wheelers at a large private property near Coimbatore railway station. The parking lot operates 24 hours a day and was being conducted manually for the past several years. Day, Weekly, Monthly and Annual passes are being issued and the daily rates too had multiple slabs. Significant revenue leakage, legal exposure in terms of service taxes and poor process controls were the key concerns.

We implemented the Intelligent Park & Pay System (IPAPS v1.4) – with multiple pass issue features.

Result:

  • A better management process has been established – speed of operations increased manifold.
  • Operations & finance managers based out of their office 3 Kms from the site are able to access data on current occupancy, collections and other required details & analysis on an online & real time basis.
  • Revenue leakage is plugged and better control over the operating staff has been established.
  • Legal compliance has been ensured

Tambaram Municipality, Chennai

Tambaram Municipality on the outskirts of Chennai has a vacant land used for a bus stand earlier, that was lying in disuse. The Municipality decided to convert the space into a parking lot. It was decided to develop this into a trendsetter, by incorporating advanced technologies and processes.

We implemented the Intelligent Park & Pay System (IPAPS v3.1) –The NFC card & PC based ticketing solution, barrier gates with controller interfaces, digital vacancy display boards and Surveillance cameras.

We also developed the physical layout including marking lines, affixing road studs, providing partitions and wicket gates for pedestrians.

Result:

  • A better management process has been established – has set a new standard in public parking lot development & management
